Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark was not just a former legendary Federal Commissioner for Information; he was a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey until his glorious exit. Until his passing on February 17, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97, Pa Clark stood as the conscience of the nation, an unwavering advocate for justice, equity, and the progress of both the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
His legacy is one of fearless advocacy and relentless pursuit of fairness. He dedicated his life to speaking truth to power, championing good governance, and demanding accountability, even in the face of resistance from those in authority. His fight for the Niger Delta was not just about resource control; it was a struggle for fairness, dignity, and the fundamental right of every Nigerian to a better life. Over the years, he became a formidable voice against environmental degradation caused by oil exploration, ensuring that the plight of the marginalized was amplified on both national and international platforms.
Pa Clark’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void, yet his impact will continue to inspire generations. His legacy is not just in the policies he influenced but in the countless lives he touched and the courage he instilled in many. Nigeria, and particularly the Niger Delta, mourns the loss of a statesman whose immense contributions to national discourse and regional empowerment will be remembered for generations to come.
