Hon. Kenneth Gbandi, the Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Party of Nigeria and senatorial candidate for Delta North in the 2023 election, has passionately called upon Civil Society Organisations (CSO), the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and journalists in Delta State to join forces in ensuring that the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections break free from the traditional patterns of pre-determined results.
Acknowledging the commendable efforts of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in advocating for transparent elections, Hon. Gbandi expressed confidence in the Governor’s sincerity and good intentions toward fostering electoral integrity.
From his GRA office in Asaba, Delta State, Hon. Gbandi welcomed a courtesy visit from ADC State Chairman Engr Austine C. Okolie the ADC LGA Chairman from Ika South, who recently assumed the role of IPAC Treasurer. During the meeting, the ADC leaders introduced Mr. Okpah Okolie Stephen and Chief Okamadu Abia, both ADC members with a keen interest in the upcoming LGA elections.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, Hon. Gbandi urged CSOs, IPAC, and journalists to actively support the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) in ensuring transparent elections that genuinely reflect the will of the people. He declared an end to the era where election results were manipulated behind closed doors.
Addressing the IPAC Treasurer, Hon. Gbandi stressed the need for IPAC to function independently as a constructive critic of the government, promoting diverse representation and acting as a check-and-balance tool rather than serving as a mere extension of the ruling government.
In conclusion, Hon. Gbandi called for a united effort to usher in a new era of fair and just elections, reinforcing the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori promises for a free and fair LGA election in furtherance of the principles of democracy in Delta State.
