The Apex Association of Anioma Indigenes Inc. (AAAI), under the leadership of Apst Patrick A. Nwanze, is intensifying efforts in advocating for the creation of Anioma State. The organization is dedicated to advancing the welfare, cultural heritage, and development of the Anioma people, an Igbo-speaking ethnic group predominantly located in Delta State, Nigeria. With a population of approximately 1.8 million people across nine Local Government Areas, the AAAI believes the Anioma people are well-qualified for statehood.
The AAAI’s mission focuses on advocacy, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment, all aimed at enhancing the socioeconomic and political status of Anioma people, both within and outside Nigeria. They believe that the creation of Anioma State will address long-standing local issues, promote economic growth, foster unity, and significantly improve the quality of life for Anioma’s people.
Despite facing challenges like political manipulation and marginalization, the AAAI remains resolute in its pursuit of statehood. The organization sees the creation of Anioma State as a justified and long-overdue demand to correct the imbalance in the South East Geo-political zone and to remedy historical injustices against the Igbo-speaking people generally.
The anticipated benefits of Anioma State creation include economic growth, better governance, and more effective use of resources. It will also lead to improved political representation, with Delta North potentially gaining three senators instead of one and six House of Representatives members instead of three. Furthermore, the development of infrastructure and better utilization of local natural resources will significantly enhance the region’s growth and prosperity.
The AAAI calls on all Anioma indigenes, both at home and abroad, to join hands and support this cause, encouraging unity and collaboration. They also urge those opposing the state’s creation to reconsider and align their efforts for the collective benefit of the Anioma people, bringing the government closer and more responsive to their needs.
