On the historic occasion of the Akwukwu-Igbo Economic Development Summit 2024, distinguished guests, speakers, dignitaries, and sons and daughters of Akwukwu-Igbo gathered at the town hall to chart a course for the future of their community. This landmark event, themed “Harnessing the Economic Potential of Our Communities in Challenging Times,” was graced by a message from renowned environmentalist, cultural activist, and engineer, Chief Dr. Newton Chukwukadibia Jibunoh, also known as the “Desert Warrior” and Nna Obodo of Akwukwu-Igbo Kingdom. The address was delivered on his behalf by Nwaji Jibunoh, Group Head of Dangote Academy, Dangote Industries Limited.
A Vision for Collective Prosperity
In his opening remarks, Dr. Jibunoh extended warm greetings to all attendees and emphasized the shared vision of the summit: fostering economic development through unity, innovation, and a commitment to the community. “This summit is a testament to our collective commitment to the growth and prosperity of our people,” he stated, underscoring the entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, and determination that have always defined Akwukwu-Igbo.
Dr. Jibunoh reminded the audience that economic development transcends wealth creation. It is about opportunity, empowerment, and building a sustainable future for generations. He urged the community to embrace development strategies that honor their cultural heritage, preserve traditional values, and strengthen their sense of identity.
The Role of Unity and Responsibility
Dr. Jibunoh highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, private sector, civil society, and individuals in fostering economic growth. He called for policies that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment, while advocating for principles of unity, cooperation, and inclusivity. “Let us celebrate our diversity and remain committed to the betterment of our people,” he urged.
Priorities for Economic Growth
The address identified three critical areas of focus for the community’s development:
- Local Investment:
Dr. Jibunoh emphasized the need for Akwukwu-Igbo indigenes to lead by example by investing in their homeland. He stated, “We must prioritize our own community’s development before seeking external investment.” This approach, he explained, would not only demonstrate commitment to the community but also make Akwukwu-Igbo a more attractive destination for external investors. - Entrepreneurship and Innovation:
Recognizing the role of small businesses and startups in driving economic growth, he called for support systems to empower entrepreneurs and innovators. Providing resources for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and fostering a culture of creativity were highlighted as key strategies. - Conducive Business Environment:
Dr. Jibunoh stressed the importance of simplifying regulatory frameworks, reducing bureaucratic barriers, and promoting transparency and accountability. These measures, he explained, would create an ecosystem that encourages investment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth.
A Call to Action
In closing, Dr. Jibunoh expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants for their dedication to Akwukwu-Igbo’s development. He reminded the community of their collective strength and potential to create a brighter future. “Together, we can build a prosperous Akwukwu-Igbo for ourselves, our children, and generations to come. Let us seize this moment and work together.”
The Akwukwu-Igbo Economic Development Summit 2024 stands as a rallying cry for the community to harness its resources, talents, and resilience to achieve lasting growth and prosperity. As the words of the Desert Warrior echoed through the town hall, they ignited a shared determination to transform Akwukwu-Igbo into a beacon of economic progress in these challenging times.
